0.8250 in sight: USD/CHF Price Forecast as Dollar recovers some momentum

  • 0.8250 is within reach as USD/CHF sets session highs. The pair has rebounded from one-month lows below 0.8200.
  • Fresh five-month highs in oil support the Greenback through moderate risk aversion.
  • A retreat in French yields from their highs reduces the CHF’s safe-haven appeal.

0.8247 is being tested by USD/CHF at the time of writing. The pair has recovered from support around 0.8200 to challenge Thursday’s highs, with momentum indicators signalling weakening bearish pressure. On Friday, the US Dollar (USD) is paring its losses against the Swiss Franc (CHF): risk aversion driven by soaring oil prices has counterbalanced the drag from lower US Treasury yields.

Renewed supply fears pushed Brent Oil above $110.00 to fresh five-month highs on Friday. Iran has tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz, while further attacks have hit Saudi Arabian oilfields. At these levels, crude prices place additional pressure on oil-importing economies, including Switzerland.

French 10-year OAT bond yields have also fallen 10 basis points from Thursday’s multi-decade high of 5.14%. The decline has reduced speculative interest in the CHF, which has served as a haven during France’s debt crisis.

0.8200 Support Attracts US Dollar Buyers: Technical Analysis

USD/CHF Chart Analysis

At 0.8242, USD/CHF retains a mildly bullish short-term bias. Its rebound from the 0.8200 area has carried it above former support at 0.8230. Bearish momentum is weakening: the 4-hour Relative Strength Index (14) has moved back towards the neutral 50 region, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) has turned positive.

Consolidation above 0.8230 would put the weekly highs around 0.8275 in focus for bulls. A decisive break above that level would invalidate the bearish trend, opening the way towards the October 13 and 14 lows near 0.8315.

Conversely, a move back below 0.8230 would encourage bears to challenge support around 0.8185, the September 22 low. Below that, the next downside target lies near 0.8150, where the mid-August and early September peaks sit.
