On economic conditions, the Fed noted continued expansion in activity and said domestic spending “has been resilient, that productivity growth is strong and that capital investment is robust.” Turning to its employment mandate, the central bank observed: “Job gains have kept pace with the workforce, and the unemployment rate has changed little.”

Although inflation remains elevated, according to the central bank, it opted not to raise rates so it could gather further information and better assess the appropriate policy stance.

Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack cast the two dissenting votes at the meeting, backing a 25-basis-point rate increase.

How did GBP/USD respond to the Fed’s decision?

With the decision matching expectations, the price response remained subdued. Trading around 1.3305, GBP/USD faces its next resistance at the day's high (HOD) of 1.3312, while initial support lies at the day's low of 1.3272.
