What happened?

The price is about 4.7% below a month ago and roughly 26% under the all-time high of $5,608 set in January 2026. Even so, gold rebounded from the $4,064–$4,074 zone on Monday morning in a V-shaped move, forming a higher low near resistance at $4,185–$4,195.

Silver's December futures opened at $57.13 on Monday, about 15% below a month ago and about 5% below last week.

“Gold is trying to build above its support, but resistance at $4,200 has not been broken yet.”

Why is the market moving?

  • The Fed: After Warsh's cautious tone, the probability of a hold in October rose to about 83%, giving gold limited support.
  • Inflation: US annual inflation is 3.7%, which keeps policy restrictive and limits the appeal of a metal that pays no yield.
  • Yields: The 10-year yield near 5.15% raises gold's opportunity cost.
  • Central banks: They bought a net 39 tonnes in August, according to the World Gold Council, and China's central bank extended its buying streak to a 22nd straight month.

Silver is more volatile than gold because industry accounts for a large share of its demand. The gold-to-silver ratio is about 72.5, calculated as an ounce of gold divided by an ounce of silver, and a rising ratio is usually read as relative weakness in silver.

Technical reading

Table of gold support and resistance levels around $4,141
Gold levels

▲ Bullish: Gold: a clear close above $4,205 changes the trend and opens the way toward $4,230 and beyond.

▼ Bearish: Gold: a break below $4,065 support puts a $3,970 target in focus.

▼ Bearish: Silver: analysts see the $55 level as exposed if the current bounce fades.

Watchlist

  • The Fed: October 27–28, with the decision around 9 PM Cairo time on the 28th.
  • Yields and the dollar: gains in either weigh on both metals.
  • Gold zones: $4,065 as key support and $4,185–$4,205 as resistance.
  • Silver: whether $55 holds or gets tested.

What does it mean for traders?

  • Volatility: Silver moves more than gold, so position size needs tighter control.
  • Nearby levels: The gap between $4,065 support and $4,205 resistance is about $140, so keep targets and stop levels clearly inside or outside this range.
  • Event timing: Spreads widen and slippage rises around the Fed decision and inflation data.
